Wenger: “Suarez Is One Of Our Targets, We Know What We Want To Do”

Arsene Wenger has been speaking at a press conference in Helkinki ahead of Saturday’s friendly with Manchester City and he’s confirmed that Luis Suarez is still an Arsenal target, despite Liverpool insisting he’s not for sale.
After seeing two bids rejected, Suarez publicly stating he wants to join us and Brendan Rodgers accusing the striker of not respecting LFC, John W Henry insisted on Friday that the Merseysiders will not sell the Uruguayan to Arsenal or any other club this summer.
However, the boss has been speaking on Friday and confirmed that Suarez remains a target, saying ‘if’ the transfer happens it will be done in an amicable way. He says he hasn’t read Henry’s comments but knows Arsenal want to sign him, the player wants to join, but until Liverpool change their stance, we’ll have to respect their decision not to sell.
He told Sky Sports News.

“There is nothing to add to what I said already about the transfer of Suarez.
“If it will be done, it will be done in a respectful and amicable way with Liverpool.
“I didn’t read (Henry’s) statements but we’ll be faithful to the way we want to behave.
“To make a transfer happen, you need the agreement of three parties – the buyer, the seller and the player.
“We know what we want to do. The player, if I look at the statements, (does) as well. Liverpool at the moment do not agree. If they change their minds or not, I don’t know. We’ll respect that.
“We are looking at possibilities to strengthen our squad. Suarez is one of the targets. If he’s not for sale, he’s not for sale, we have to accept that.
“Every club has its own way of dealing with things, we have our way and we respect all the other clubs.”

So it seems we’ve not quite given up hope just yet, despite Liverpool’s insistence that they will not sell. It does make you wonder why Arsene seems to have so much confidence that a deal can still be done.
This ‘clause’ appears to be a dead end, with PFA chief executive Peter Taylor confirming there is no strict buy-out clause, therefore Liverpool are under no obligation to sell.
Of course some say there is no point keeping hold of an unhappy player but there is no guarantee Liverpool will buckle despite Suarez wanting out. Selling the striker to us would be suicide for them, as they’d have no hope of finishing in the top-four next season.
From Arsene’s comments I think it’s safe to assume we’ll be going back in with another bid, but the big questions will be how much and whether it will be enough to persuade Liverpool to sell. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks….
