Liverpool striker Luis Suarez
Luis Suarez is preparing to take legal action against Liverpool in a bid to force through a move to Arsenal, reports the Daily Mail.
The Uruguayan forward has been the subject of a long drawn out summer transfer saga, which has seen the Gunners submit two official offers for his services.
Suarez believes the second – which consisted of £40million plus an extra £1 – should have triggered a clause that would have been enough to secure a move to the Emirates, although Liverpool claim there is no such clause in his contract.
The striker is said to have been angered by the club’s attempts to keep him at Anfield, and is looking to step up his efforts to leave this week.
The forward has asked his advisors to seek ratification on the clause from the Premier League, and should that fail, the South American is willing to seek advice from a legal team as to whether Liverpool have been in breach of contract.
Suarez’s final option would be to hand in a formal transfer request, although the Uruguayan sees that as a last resort.
Meanwhile Arsenal are reluctant to up their offer to Liverpool’s £50million asking price, as they believe their earlier offer should have been enough to secure the player already.
The Gunners – who have been accused of “lacking class” by Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers – are believed to be simply biding their time to see if Suarez’s attempts to get the situation clarified are successful, before launching a third bid.
