Arsenal said to be interested in Eto’o

With the news that Anzhi are set to sell all their big name players and focus on youth development it didn’t take long for Arsenal to be linked with one and it’s the starriest name of them all – Samuel Eto’o.
According to the Spanish site El Confidencial Chelsea are also interested in the player who is reportedly the world’s highest paid player.
The report on the Spanish site claims that Arsenal were the first side to express an interest in the 32 year old who is under contract with Anzhi until 2014 but the decision of the owners of the club to drastically cut the wages the club are paying means that he is likely to be one of the first out the door at the club.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea man Lass Diarra is also expected to leave the club although there is no word yet which clubs would be interested in picking him up. Former Shakhtar man, Willian, who moved to Anzhi in a deal worth €35m, will also be leaving.
Russian midfielder Igor Denisov, who has been linked with Arsenal in the past, has been away from the club because of ‘indiscipline’ despite only joining on June 21st this year. He is likely to go as well.
Are Arsenal interested in signing any of these players? I don’t see why not. Will they be able/willing to offer them anything close to the wages they have enjoyed in Russia? I doubt it very much. Samuel Eto’o would have to take a pay cut of around £200,000 per week if Arsenal were to offer him £150,000 per week, a sum which would make him the highest paid player at Arsenal by some distance and would be £10,000 more per week than Arsenal are said to be offering Luis Suarez.
