Rodgers – Suarez is letting the city down

In quotes which are bound to bemuse Everton fans, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Luis Suarez is letting the city down.
With Rodgers wanting an apology and Suarez not inclined to give them one, the Liverpool soap opera took another turn today when Brendan Rodgers insisted that there was no problem between the two of them and then blathered on some more about values and commitment.
I’m not entirely sure why Rodgers thought that publicly demanding a player should apologise in order to get back in to a side that he doesn’t want to play for was the best course of action but, then again, Rodgers doesn’t seem to be handling any of this too well.
Rodgers’ latest statement which has everyone who is not connected with Liverpool giggling away is this
“It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix.
“There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.
“If you don’t have that commitment, and those standards, then you won’t play. It’s as simple as that.
“If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.
“There’s no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, if they’re not pulling their weight then they are letting down the club, the city and everyone who has stood by them.
“So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100% commitment, then there will be no solution.”
They won’t sell, he won’t apologise and they claim he won’t play until he does. Must be nice to be so well placed in the league that you can let a world-class talent just rot away in the reserves.
Despite their intransigence over the whole situation, with every passing day and new statement from Brendan Rodgers, the situation is getting worse. No doubt Rodgers believes that his comments over the past week would force Suarez to realise the error of his ways when in reality all it has done is push the two parties further apart.
Arsenal are still the only club waiting in the wings ready to pick up the pieces.
