Arsenal track another Schalke star

Arsenal could look to German side Schalke again as they set their sights on defensive reinforcements for next season, [football] direct news understands.
Having been strongly linked with the team's star youngster Julian Draxler, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is now keen on snapping up Cameroon international defender Joel Matip from the Bundesliga club.
The 22-year-old has been a top performer for the club in recent times, attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool, and Arsenal are the latest side to look into his availability.
With a host of other sides also looking at Draxler ahead of the summer, Schalke will be determined not to let too many of their best players go, but the north London outfit are determined to land Matip.
"With Thomas Vermaelen possibly leaving, Matip looks like he could be a great signing," a club insider explained. "Wenger is a big fan and my understanding is he'll be one of the priorities this summer."
The young centre-back would likely start out as a back-up player to the more experienced pair of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny at the Emirates Stadium.
