Andre Schurrle & Mesut Ozil
Jogi Low has been quizzed on Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. Is he worried or not?
German national coach Jogi Low must have known it was coming as he sat down for an interview, the question over Mesut Ozil.
The manager spoke to German website RP-Online after the Euro 2016 qualifying draw, and it didn't take long until the topic of the under pressure Arsenal star came up in conversation.
He was asked, "There are problems currently also with Mesut Özil at Arsenal. How do you assess his situation?"
Low's response showed he is confident the Gunners' record signing will turn his fortunes around.
He said: "Mesut caught a bad day. But Mesut is used to (pressure) for Real and now at Arsenal, that he can handle criticism. In the national team he is an important component. I know what he can do."
The reaction in Germany was very critical of Ozil's performance against Bayern last week, with websites and newspapers less than complimentary about his display.
Suddeutsche.de described him as a 'tragic figure', while T-Online wrote that he left the pitch 'like a whipped dog'.
Low himself had commented right after the game that he had a feeling Ozil would miss the penalty, due to the way Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer knows him from the international set up.
A comment perhaps which indicated he was worried about Ozil, for had he had full confidence in him he surely would have backed him to score regardless - yet his latest comments suggest that he is confident his star playmaker will come through his dip in form and will retain his World Cup place.
