The Gunners started much the brighter at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, and should have had the defending European champions on the ropes inside the opening 10 minutes. Mesut Ozil was, however, denied from the penalty spot by Germany international colleague Manuel Neuer, and the game started to go away from Arsenal from that point. Wojciech Szczesny was sent off shortly before half-time and Bayern, who missed a penalty of their own, made their numerical advantage count after the break to secure a 2-0 first-leg lead in their UEFA Champions League last-16 encounter. "Now we have nothing to lose and will go to Munich trying to turn the situation around." Mathieu Flamini Sagna conceded to L'Equipe afterwards: "We started the match well, creating several opportunities during the first 15 minutes. "Unfortunately we didn't score the penalty that would have put us in a good position. "After the sending-off, it became very difficult. Bayern were already strong with 11 against 11, so being down to 10 allowed their domination to become bigger." Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini also believes that Szczesny's dismissal proved to be a turning point in the tie, but insists Arsene Wenger's men will head to Germany believing they can turn things around. He added: "We are disappointed because we made a good start. We had some good opportunities, but being down to 10 made it more difficult. "We managed the second half quite well, we defended well, but the last goal just two minutes before the final whistle was difficult to take. "Now we have nothing to lose and will go to Munich trying to turn the situation around."
