Real Madrid tell fans Arsenal move was at the insistance of Mesut Ozil

Real Madrid tell fans Arsenal move was at the insistance of Mesut Ozil

Since Mesut Ozil's dad threatened to take legal action against anyone spreading lies about his son's private life, it's all gone very quiet on that front. The bravado from Spain of a certain 'journalist' telling Mustafa to go ahead and sue him was then followed by silence, almost like they'd all had a little panic at the prospect of being dragged through the court by an irate Mr Ozil.
Of course legal action is very unlikely given how complicated and potentially embarrassing it would be, but the idea was probably to plant a seed of doubt and it looks like the Ozils have done that. Sometimes claims cross a line and Mustafa and Mesut were correct to come out and stand their ground against claims which were becoming more farcical by the day. It was an insinuation from Punto Pelota that Mustafa sent his son to Arsenal because he personally got a payment which was the final straw.
Florentino Perez has been meeting with fans of the club in scheduled events where the president answers questions on Real Madrid's strategy. It had been reported that Perez would use the meetings to launch a character assassination on Ozil but that hasn't happened and instead the Real Madrid boss has simply explained it was Ozil who wanted to go.
Rather than claim the club were forced into a sale due to Ozil's extra-curricular activities, Perez has said that the player and his father told him they wanted a transfer and then set about getting one. El Confidencial quote him as saying "Both Ozil himself and his father asked to leave Real Madrid."
Perez said they wouldn't keep a player who insisted he wanted to go and refused to get drawn into to other claims by saying "It's that simple."
