Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has expressed confidence in his team being strong contenders for the Premier League crown, this season.
The Frenchman was quoted telling France Football: “Our ambitions are clear, as the arrival of Mesut Ozil has proved. To fight for the title and compete in the Champions League. We want to win trophies. The club has waited for them for too long. We have the means to compete for the title, even if we are outsiders, not favourites, like in 2007-08.”
Flamini also said that he still has ‘unfinished business’ at the club and that he wishes to lay his hands upon silverware, while playing for the Gunners. He said: “It is an important season for me and Arsenal… I want to write another beautiful story with Arsenal. I have unfinished business here… They were four years of great moments and strong regrets, because there is a feeling of not finishing the job.”
The Frenchman, who signed for the north Londoners as a free agent this summer following five years at AC Milan, also spoke of his cherished return to the club this season and how he was able to connect with each aspect of the club, emotionally.
Flamini, who helped Arsene Wenger’s side to their last trophy – the 2005 FA Cup – in his last spell at the club, made his ‘second debut’ for the club, coming on as a substitute in the win against arch rivals Tottenham. It will be interesting to see how Arsene Wenger opts to use the 29 year old Frenchman this season and if he is able to cement his place as a first team regular.
