Arsene Wenger's tactful way of telling Olivier Giroud to shut up

Arsene Wenger's tactful way of telling Olivier Giroud to shut up

Arsene Wenger is a very clever guy, that much has become clear during his time in England as Arsenal manager and we reckon that during his Premier League press conference this week he was encouraging Olivier Giroud to keep his mouth closed.
Giroud has done many interviews with the French media since he joined Arsenal. Almost every time he compares himself favourably to Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie and he did so again when speaking to L'Equipe last week.
His latest comparison was "Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie were not made in a season. Take Van Persie, he really exploded after two or three years at Arsenal. As for Thierry Henry, I scored as many goals as him in my first season. It makes me want to impose myself as No.1 forward at Arsenal and later on people say: 'At Arsenal, there was Henry, Van Persie and Giroud.'"
L'Equipe then had to explain that his claims regarding Thierry were wrong which is a little embarrassing in itself, but it's more the pressure the likable player brings on himself which is worrying. He's having a great season and should probably be happy with that rather than trying to ramp things up further.
What may have caught Wenger's attention more, because Giroud rolls out the Henry/RVP stuff on demand, is that the Frenchman said he would have been bothered had an out and out striker such as Gonzalo Higuain joined the club, and that he'd prefer a Suarez type player who play wide.
Wenger's comments, from Arsenal.com,  just two days after Giroud's latest interview were "Every day when you opened a newspaper he saw another striker coming here but he didn't say anything. For me that's the best answer you can give when you're a football player. Don't talk too much, play and show how good you are. Many people forget that sometimes but that's the core of your job."
We think there's a cleverly hidden message in there for talkative Giroud, Wenger will hope he gets it.
