Mesut Ozil wows Arsenal fans, but former player says they ‘paid too much’

Following an impressive hat-trick of assists on the weekend vs Stoke, Arsenal fans will be forgiven for singing the praises of their new record signing.
Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in a record deal for the Gunners on deadline day; Jens Lehmann says Arsene Wenger’s side “paid too much for Mesut Ozil”
“In all honesty, Arsenal paid too much for Mesut Ozil, but that’s because Gareth Bale went to Real Madrid for so much more money. Nobody is worth that much. The Ozil deal was much better. I don’t see a €50m difference between the two players. That’s how that market works when a club like Real Madrid loses the plot.”
“Arsenal are profiting from Ozil’s level of game and performance and his success is not a surprise to me. Wenger did not fail and, given time, he demonstrated a great success in the market.”
Arsene Wenger, long mocked for his shrewd ways, broke the bank for Ozil and, with Theo Walcott out for over a month, the German international may have to chip in a few goals.
