Arsenal considering move for Aston Villa's Guzan

Arsenal are lining up a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan, the Daily Express has reported.

Brad Guzan

It has been claimed by sections of the media in the United States that Guzan, a United States international, is wanted by Arsene Wenger, with Guzan particularly catching the manager’s eye when Villa beat the Gunners on the opening day of the Premier League season. Wenger has sent scouts to watch Guzan twice since then, it is said.

Wenger signed Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano on loan in the final hours of the transfer window to provide back-up to and competition for Wojciech Szczesny, but the Pole’s form has been such that Viviano has yet to make a league appearance.

Even with the two goalkeepers and the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Wenger is thought to be considering a move for Guzan, who was originally back-up to Brad Friedel and then Shay Given at Villa Park before usurping the latter at the start of last season.

Guzan has gone on to make 76 appearances for Villa, having also had a loan spell at Hull City in 2011, playing 16 times for the Tigers, Guzan started his professional career at Chivas, moving to Villa in 2008.
