GUNNERS TARGET: Loic Remy

Gunners to hijack Magpies’ Loic Remy bid Arsenal want QPR striker who is loan at Newcastle 19/02/2014

GUNNERS TARGET: Loic Remy (PA) NEWCASTLE’S HOPES of signing forward Loic Remy on a permanent deal from Queens Park Rangers could be dashed by Arsenal who are understood to want to bring in the French hitman. The 27-year-old is currently on loan at St James’ Park and it was expected he would sign for the Magpies once the temporary deal was over in the summer. But Gunners boss Arsene Wenger’s hunt for a new forward could mean he targets Remy which would likely lead to a bidding war over his services. Magpies manager Alan Pardew knows he has a battle on his hands to keep Remy, and last month during the transfer window, he said: “The plan was always that he would be on loan for the year and we had a deal with QPR that that would be the case. “We would like to do it permanently but there is a long way until that happens. “It is not quite as simple as [meeting his release clause] as the player and his agents need to make sure it is right for the player and we have to honour that.” The in-demand striker has been a success on Tyneside, having netted 11 goals in 22 appearances so far this campaign.
