The biggest selection dilemma facing Wenger and Arsenal
Who should play on the left of midfield against Bayern?
The majority of Arsenal's
team to face Bayern Munich picks itself. With Mikel Arteta suspended
and Aaron Ramsey injured, even the central midfield area is a little
more predictable than it may otherwise be.Yet there is one area of the team where there is a real selection dilemma, and the options differ with regard to how adventurous Arsene Wenger decides to be.
That lies on the left wing, with three viable options for Wenger to choose from; here are the candidates:
Santi Cazorla
Spanish international Santi Cazorla is the most expensive signing of the candidates, and has played the most games in the position so far this season. While not a natural winger, his technical ability allows him to play out wide effectively, but Wenger may be wary of including him alongside Mesut Ozil against such an attacking side. With goals at home against Liverpool and Spurs this season, he has shown he is the man for the big occasion.
Lukas Podolski
If there's a game Lukas Podolski won't want to miss, it's this match against his former club Bayern. Fired up, he scored against them last season, and showed with his strike against Liverpool at the weekend he may be coming into form at the right time. There are questions over his ability to defend however and offer protection to the left-back, and with a side as talented as Bayern capable of tearing the Gunners apart, Wenger may opt for a safer option.
Tomas Rosicky
Rosicky would be the cautious option, a tireless worker who is unlikely to let his side down. Often picked by Wenger for the 'big-games', Rosicky is back available after missing the weekend's match through injury. The Czech Republic international is an option for central midfield too, but playing him on the left would allow Wenger to start Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the middle.
