Mesut Özil given extended break
After arriving from Real
Madrid where the football wasn’t as fast-paced and where he didn’t have
many defensive obligations or as much match time, Arsenal playmaker has
been given an extended break by manager Arsène Wenger.
The Gunners boss felt the need to give
his side a two-day break following their 4-1 victory over Sunderland on
Saturday after a tough fixture scheduling over the past couple of
months.
Mesut Özil has been given special treatment and been giving an extra day off too according to the Daily Mirror.
The German international missed last
weekend’s victory over Sunderland due to a dead leg picked up in the
defeat by Bayern Munich. Now Arsène Wenger feels his record signing
needs an extra day to recharge his batteries during a busy first season
at the Emirates Stadium.
Prior to the weekend, Özil had played in
29 of Arsenal’s 32 fixtures across the Premier League, UEFA Champions
League, FA Cup and League Cup.
During his time at Real Madrid, Özil only played the full 90 minutes in 29% (45 out of 157) of the matches he participated in.
