17 goal Arsenal linked striker has 'several offers', but...
Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette is to be offered a new contract claims his chairman, complicating any potential move to Arsenal.
Of the many names linked to Arsenal in the January transfer window, Alexandre Lacazette was one who made a lot of sense.A young French striker who was scoring for fun in Ligue 1, who can also play on the flanks - and would have been able to operate alongside Olivier Giroud.
Valued at around €10 million, the 22-year-old was the subject of an enquiry from Arsenal, according to French reports.
Any progress around the Lyon striker went no further than that, and he has continued to look settled in France.
He has scored 13 Ligue 1 goals and a further four in cup competitions, with his total output for the campaign 17 goals and 6 assists with three months remaining.
With just four goals across the whole season for his club last season, Lacazette has shown an immense improvement.
So it's no wonder that despite his contract lasting until 2016, there is a real desire at Lyon to keep him just where he is, and offer him an improved deal.
Speaking to France Football, his chairman Jean-Michael Aulas revealed that there have been 'several offers' for the forward. No clubs were named, but considering previous reports linking Arsenal it's fair to assume there's a chance the Gunners were among the interested.
He said: "We have received several offers, but is not for sale. Indeed we are preparing a proposal to renew his contract."
There is certainly no urgency on the player's behalf to renew his deal, if he wants to test himself at a new level. But if Lyon can get him to agree, it places them in an even stronger position should offers for his services come along this summer.
