Parma president: We want Arsenal's January striking target
The Serie A club are eager to resign Sebastian Giovinco, who was a target for the Gunners in the January transfer window.
Despite the emergence of Yaya Sanogo of late, Arsenal are still lacking in striking options compared to their Premier League title rivals.Although a number of new attackers were linked to the North London club in the January transfer window, Sebastian Giovinco was one that repeatedly was spoken of as a potential target.
The Italy international is struggling to get game time at Juventus, and the North London club were believed to be interested in a loan move for the diminutive forward.
However, should Arsene Wenger return for Giovinco in the summer, he will face competition for the striker’s signature.
Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi is quoted by Calcio Mercato as claiming an interest in signing the Stadio Ennio Tardini outfit’s former charge.
“Yes, we have a wonderful memory of Giovinco,” he stated.
“You have to recall what we received in selling him, whilst we had paid €4m [for 50 per cent] when he seemed an overrated player - €4m for half, which means a valuation of €8m.
“Could he return to Parma? Yes, sure, I can only say yes. It is clear that he is a very important player and I do not think that Juventus will release him easily, because they have also made an important economic effort to sign him back from us.
“He is a player who is amongst great champions. We can say that Giovinco does not play, but we cannot forget that those playing in his place include Tevez, Llorente, Osvaldo…champions.”
The 27-year-old has only started three Serie A games this season, scoring a solitary goal and looks destined to leave Turin this summer.
