On loan Olympiacos striker Joel Campbell has revealed why he opted for parent-club Arsenal over Manchester United, ahead of his side's crucial European tie tonight according to Sky Sports.
The youngster, who has yet to play a minute of competitive football for the Gunners due to disputes over a work permit, has largely impressed since being loaned to Olympiacos, and is gearing up to help the Greek side in their bid to overcome United in the Champions League second-round.
And, having bagged seven goals in 24 games this year, Campbell is confident that next season he can be the striker that Arsene Wenger is in dire need of, and insists that joining any other club was never an option.
"They [United] showed an interest in me when I was moving to Europe but I have been an Arsenal fan since I was a child and that's why I chose them," Campbell said.
"As soon as Arsenal came, I wanted to join them and I believe I am ready to play for Arsenal next season.
"I know I have the capacity to play there. I am only waiting for the opportunity. With hard work I know I can get there."
From a neutral point of view one would expect the Costa Rican starlet to be given his opportunity come the summer. Unless Olympiacos can convince Wenger into an unlikely sale, as rumours speculate they intend to try and do, Campbell may return to the Emirates with only Olivier Giroud to compete with for a first-team place.
It’s thought that the Gunners will delve into the transfer market for a new forward at the next available opportunity, but they may not have to if Wenger is given cause to place his faith in Campbell.
