Ex-Chelsea man: Giroud wronged, dropped for non-sporting reasons
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has stuck up for compatriot Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal's Olivier Giroud is a man in the headlines at present for all the wrong reasons.A tabloid newspaper snapped a model heading up to his hotel room ahead of a Premier League fixture, sending his private and personal life into a tailspin.
The striker said via a couple of Tweets he was fighting to save his family life, while also insisted he had not committed adultery.
Amid criticism of his choices, morally and professionally, former Chelsea man Frank Leboeuf, now a pundit in France - has leaped to his defence.
He told French radio station RMC:
"Olivier Giroud has been wronged. Girls know very well that they can monetise a night with a football player.
"They fetch the first football players and they sell pictures, even if it is not true. It is a collective scheming. Even if it's wrong, we buy the pictures. Must remain very quiet when you are football player."
Giroud's problems have transferred off the pitch to on it. Since the alleged incidents took place ahead of the match with Crystal Palace, he has not scored, looking woeful against Manchester United a little over a week ago.
He has since been dropped for Yaya Sanogo, a promising player but one who is yet to score a single goal for Arsenal, for two of their biggest matches of the season.
Leboeuf has also weighed in on this, and feels Arsene Wenger's decision to drop the striker was not a choice based solely on sporting reasons.
"I doubt that the choice of Wenger to Giroud on the bench to face Bayern was a sporting choice.
"I saw Sanogo played at Liverpool , his progress is very good, but we see that lack of level of experience. He remains light for Arsenal and the Champions League. I find it unfortunate that Giroud did not play."
