Klose could soften blow as Arsenal lose out on Draxler

Arsenal will attempt to rush through a deal for experienced Germany forward Miroslav Klose after admitting defeat in their bid to take Julian Draxler to the Emirates.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was – for once – willing to offer big money to land a player, with Arsenal prepared to smash their transfer record to secure the Schalke man but the 20-year-old looks likely to stay put until the summer.
Draxler has been made aware that Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are prepared to battle for his signature in the summer and with the player’s £37m buyout clause kicking in then a summer move would be a better deal for his current employers.
Arsenal fans will hope that Wenger offers near that figure before the 11pm deadline in order to steal a march on his rivals but the Frenchman’s past reluctance to splash the cash means Klose is now looking a much more likely arrival.
The north London giants are priced as 2/11 favourites to beat city rivals Crystal Palace this weekend but with Olivier Giroud the only player in double figures so far, another striker would boost the club’s 5/1 chances of landing the Premier League title.
Theo Walcott is the club’s second highest-scoring striker but with the England man out for the remainder of the season, Wenger could be tempted to make a deadline day deal.
At 35 years-of-age Klose represents a short-term fix at best but with the Lazio man hitting 36 goals in 87 games for his current club he clearly still has an eye for goal.
His 68 strikes in an incredible 130 international games for Germany also show that the former Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Kaiserslautern player can perform on the biggest of stages and with Arsenal better placed to end their trophy drought than in recent years he could be just the man to make the difference.
