Arsenal are reportedly closing in on signing 20-year German sensation Julian Draxler from Schalke, reports the Daily Express. Arsenal have sent a delegation to Germany to tie up a deal for the attacking midfielder before Friday’s deadline. Reports suggest that the Gunners are looking to seal a cut price deal for Draxler after Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea were rumoured to have dropped their interest in the player. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is willing to pay between 25 to 30 million pounds for the 20-year old. Draxler’s release clause of 37 million pounds doesn’t kick in until next season but Schalke are willing to hold out for an amount closer to the release clause if they are to sell this month. The Gunners are therefore in a race against time to sign the German international, who is also rumoured to be wanting a move to the Emirates before the end of this window. One will have to wait and watch whether Arsenal’s negotiators can reach an agreement before the transfer deadline which is just 2 days away. Draxler has 10 German caps to his name already, and is tipped to become one of the country’s finest superstars in the future. Rumour has it that Arsene Wenger is looking to convert Draxler into a striker just as he did with former Gunners’ stars Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie.
