Confirmed – Arsenal sign Ospina as Szczesny backup

Well is this turning into Arsenal’s best transfer window ever? Not only have Arsenal signed Debuchy, Sanchez and Chambers, but Arsene Wenger has now confirmed that we have bought the excellent David Ospina as a replacement for Fabianski.
At a fantastic price of just 4 million Euros, Ospina was always the best value keeper on the market, and Wenger thinks that the Colombian international will be challenging Wojciech Szczesny for the First XI jersey next season. ‘You know at the start Szczesny will be the No. 1, then again we’ll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,’ Wenger said yesterday.
Ospina has made 177 appearances for OGC Nice in France’s Ligue 1 over the last 6 years as well as 44 appearances for Colombia. He was certainly impressive in the Brazil World Cup where he played every game for his country until they were cruelly eliminated by the host country in the quarter-finals.
There have been more than a few occasions in the last few years when Wenger has dropped Szczesny to the bench, so the signing of Ospina will certainly keep him on his toes. And all Arsenal fans can be happy that we finally have TWO top-class keepers!
Feeling good…………….
