Dzeko in the sights of Arsenal

Arsenal’s search for another striker continues to dominate headlines with the Mirror reporting that Arsene Wenger is weighing up a shock move for rival Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko. There are real fears in the Emirates that lone frontman Olivier Giroud -- the club’s only fit, firing and recgonisable striker -- risks a major breakdown if Wenger doesn’t quickly find him suitable backup. And after missing out on Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain last summer, Wenger is writing up a list of targets for the January window. It looks like Dzeko has shot right to the top. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international, who recently remarked that he is unhappy at his lack of time under City manager Manuel Pellegrini, could be open to making the move to London to join the Premier League leaders. However, the Daily Mail is reporting that former Chelsea man Salomon Kalou could be the man to fill the void at Arsenal.

Manchester United could be back at the site of one of their greatest raids, with the Mirror suggesting the Red Devils are scouting Sporting Lisbon winger Carlos Mane. More than 10 years ago, United bought another young Sporting player by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo, and the reigning English champions believe they could be onto another star in the 19-year-old Mane. The Portugal under-19 international has been on the books for the Portuguese club since the age of 7 and has impressed with the B team and in the NextGen club and has recently made his debut for the first team.

Finally, Hull will make a fresh approach for West Brom striker Shane long in the January window, according to the Mirror. Hull boss Steve Bruce was all set to make Long his prize capture in the summer window, but the deal was aborted with just minutes before the deadline. However, Bruce is hoping persistence will pay dividends as Hull is expected to make a fresh 6.5 million pound bid.
