Lukas Podolski: Draxler would be good for Arsenal, comments on 'swap'
Arsenal forward answers question regarding future of Julian Draxler.
Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has talked up the prospect of Julian Draxler joining the club. The German international believes the Schalke star would be a fine addition for the Gunners, although he himself admits he cannot second guess his club's movements.
Speaking to German newspaper BILD, he was asked the question as to what he would think of the 20-year-old joining Arsenal, as was strongly suggested in January.
He replied: "Every top player is interesting for Arsenal, Draxler is definitely one of them. But what the leaders are going to, I can not say. I just do (my work).
"An exchange transaction Podolski for Draxler, as has been described in some media, was never an issue.
"I have contact with Julian he's a good boy. But about a switch we have not yet spoken."
As the two are international teammates the contact between the pair is no surprise. Even the claims they have not discussed a deal, should be taken at face value given Draxler was rested from the Germany international squad last week.
The Sun had reported in January that Podolski could be offered in part-exchange in an Arsenal bid for the Schalke star.
In the interview Podolski said he was positive regarding Arsenal's chances at Bayern Munich in the upcoming Champions League second leg.
"It is not easy, especially not after the 0-2 in the first leg. Bayern are currently arguably the best club team in the world. But the first 15 minutes of the first leg have shown that they can be stopped." Get the new iPad Air. Converts on a zip submit. US traffic only. No incent. No Co-Reg. Offer Cap: 1,000 daily.
