Arsenal target: 'I miss the Champions League'
French ace Yohan Cabaye may be fishing for a move away from Newcastle United - with Liverpool and Manchester United set to rival the Londoners
The
classy midfielder has been one of the key figures in Newcastle's
impressive recent form, and with a World Cup on the horizon, the French
international is dreaming of a return to the top level of European
football.Cabaye was the subject of intense speculation regarding a transfer to Arsenal in the summer, and was rumoured to have asked to leave for North London before Arsenal plumped for Mesut Ozil. The central midfielder had to win back his place in the team, but since then the he has been outstanding.
The Frenchman captained Lille to the league title two years ago, and played in Europe for the club earlier in his career. But such is his form, the Gunners are likely to come calling once again, and Newcastle may struggle to keep hold of their star man.
"I miss the Champions League," Cabaye admitted to French TV according to the Newcastle Chronicle.
Such an admission will see Arsenal dusting off their cheque book, alongside Liverpool, Manchester United and PSG, all interested in the past and hoping to qualify for next season's Champions League. However, any move may have to wait till next summer after Cabaye admitted he was enjoying his football this season.
“I love to play in front of the defence, to have the whole game in front of me (and to) recover the ball and then put my team-mates into good positions.”
“I’ll finish this season with Newcastle and concentrate on the coming months and then we’ll see.”
